Toshikazu Kayano's inaugural design for Asics gets a modern performance upgrade.

Toshikazu Kayano's first design project for Asics hit the shelves in 1989. Over 30 years later, the retro basketball sneaker is getting a modern revision. The new EX89 maintains its retro silhouette, complete with a layered leather upper. Its outsole stays true to the original with a grip pattern inspired by the city view from above during Kayano's first visit to the US in 1987. The brand's FF BLAST technology updates the shoe's cushion system, while a sculpted heel shape improves comfort for everyday wear. A vibrant green, white, and french blue colorway inspired by the era's NBA uniforms completes this retro remake.
