Editor’s Note

Greta Grossman's Model 6200 desk is one of the defining pieces of postwar California modernism, combining Scandinavian discipline with the lighter, more experimental language of Southern California design. Designed in 1952 for Glenn of California, the asymmetrical composition pairs a broad black writing surface with a suspended walnut storage cabinet, diagonal tapered leg, and slender iron supports. This original period example carries extraordinary provenance from the estate of jazz legend Dave Brubeck, whose music similarly explored rhythm, balance, and unexpected structure. Professionally presented with its original character intact, it remains a remarkable piece of mid-century design history.
