Orphan Barrel's first rye offering was distilled in Indiana and aged for 14 years in Kentucky.
For their first rye release, Orphan Barrel characteristically chose a whiskey with an interesting backstory. Scarlet Shade was distilled in Indiana, then crossed state lines to age in barrels of white oak for 14 years at the Stitzel-Weller Distillery. The resulting liquid exudes vanilla and toasted oak on the nose, with notes of baking spice, rye toast, and fruits giving way to a smooth finish of orange marmalade and dark chocolate.
