Based on a Paul Klipsch design from 1963, this large loudspeaker is as efficient as it is detailed.
Paul Klipsch designed the original La Scala in 1963 as a public address speaker. It soon joined the lineup as an auditorium speaker and has been on sale ever since. The AL5 is the latest version of this Heritage Series loudspeaker, blending modern internal components with a classic cabinet design. The top section of the speaker contains a highly-efficient 1" tweet mated to a 90° X 40° Tractrix horn and a 2" mid-range driver that fires into a large exponential horn. On the bottom, there's a rear-facing 15" woofer that is routed through a two-fold horn that's based on the larger, three-fold Klipschorn design. The cabinet is made from thick birch plywood and MDF and finished by hand in Hope, AR using book-matched veneers for a consistent appearance across both the bottom and top cabinets. With an exceptional sensitivity figure of 105dB/1W/1m, it's able to be driven by powerful modern amps and vintage tube systems alike and allows it to create a lifelike soundstage while reaching incredibly loud volumes. As such, it's best used in large spaces, providing plenty of room between the walls and the sizable cabinets.
