James Dean made only three films before dying in a car crash at 24, and Giant was the last. Filmed on location in Marfa, Texas in the summer of 1955, Dean plays Jett Rink, a brooding Texas ranch hand who strikes oil and loses himself in the process. He never saw the finished film. He was killed less than two weeks after wrapping, and Giant was released posthumously to critical acclaim, earning Dean his second Academy Award nomination. Photographer Richard C. Miller caught him here between takes, slouched behind the wheel with the kind of effortless cool that made him impossible to look away from. The image is printed on archival Fuji Crystal Archive paper, with the story of the photograph stamped on the reverse.
