They didn't have beat machines in the Middle Ages. But if they did, it might have looked something like Teenage Engineering's EP-1320. Fully modern yet featuring tongue-in-cheek font choices, graphics, and Latin-inspired spellings, it offers a huge library of medieval sounds — including coconut horse hooves — samples, and playable instruments. It supports up to nine projects with four groups, each with up to 99 12-track patterns for complex compositions, and the physical controls include seven pressure-sensitive keys and a multi-functional fader. It can be powered via batteries or USB-C and is highly portable, with the dimensions of a mid-size tablet.
