40 years ago, Seiko introduced the world's first solar-powered chronograph with a 1/100th second stopwatch. Seiko is now marking that 40th anniversary with the SFJ005, a limited-edition chronograph in its top-line Prospex Speedtimer line. The unique face is set with four subdials, one each for the 1/10 second stopwatch, 1/100 second stopwatch, a stopwatch marked in seconds, and the larger time of day subdial itself. Press the "Mode" pusher at 8 o'clock, and the chronograph mode activates. The time of day subdial is set to 12 o'clock and marks up to 60 minutes of elapsed time, while the other three subdials mark time per their labeled function. The black subdials are set in a charcoal grey face under a sapphire crystal, with the bracelet wearing a center line of links in grey. The stainless steel case features a screwdown caseback engraved with the production serial number, housing Seiko's 8A50 solar-powered quartz movement with 6-month power reserve.
