Named for her great-grandad, Beyoncé's new spirit combines notes of American rye and Japanese whisky.
Beyoncé Knowles-Carter enjoys whiskey. She also has it in her genes: her great-grandfather Davis Hogue was a Prohibition-era moonshiner. Her new SirDavis American Whisky, developed with award-winning Master Distiller Dr. Bill Lumsden and the backing of Moët Hennessy, is named for him. It has a mashbill of 51 percent rye and 49 percent malted barley — unusual for a rye — and is finished in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks after spending time in new charred oak barrels. The resulting dram combines elements of American rye and single-malt Japanese whisky, with a palate that includes flavors of toffee, baking spices, biscuits, and citrus with a smooth honeyed finish fitting of Queen Bey.
