The winner of a government-funded contract to build an American supersonic jet, the Boeing SST 2707 was boldly ambitious. It was also an abject failure. Designed to carry between 250 and 300 passengers at speeds of up to Mach 3, it was much larger — and faster — than the Concorde, but left trails of sonic boom destruction in its wake. A curiosity of aviation history, a prototype model of the infamous aircraft is seen here, mounted in the Ames Wind Tunnel during testing.
