The clock that tells time without hands, and is designed to be so much more. Tokyo-based Balmuda's The Clock expresses time through illumination alone, with a "Light Hour" dial featuring a pendulum-like sweep the design team developed after studying the Foucault pendulum at Tokyo's National Museum of Nature and Science. The case is machined from a single block of aluminum into a 75mm square form weighing just 9 ounces, inspired by a classic pocket watch. Three modes cover the day: Relax Time plays ambient soundscapes including rainfall and fireplace audio; Focus Time plays white noise for more distraction-free work; and the Alarm builds gradually over three minutes rather than hitting all at once. Because the speaker inside is so powerful, it needs regular charging to achieve its full use potential to help you relax. Built to replace the bedside cell phone and sound machine, it will be updated over the air via the companion app regularly. Future updates include a wind-down mode that triggers automatically based on your preferences to help you get ready for sleep on a routine, and includes new sounds to fit moods and times of day.
