Editor’s Note

On March 7, 1917, in Mesopotamia, Private Jack White found himself the only unwounded man left on a pontoon boat under heavy enemy fire, and rather than wait for rescue, he tied a length of copper telephone wire around his own body and swam the wounded and their weapons to safety, an act that earned him the Victoria Cross. Private White V.C., the brand that carries his name, calls this raincoat Jack's Mac in his honor, and the copper hardware throughout the jacket is a direct nod to the wire he used that day. The waterproof cotton itself is Ventile, a fabric developed at Winston Churchill's own request during WWII to protect airmen. Everything is made entirely in the brand's own Manchester factory.
